I met John McConogie (sp?) (the fellow whose firm built that boat) cruising a few years ago. Very interesting and engaging chap he is... so, after a couple of glasses of red I got brave enough to ask him about that event, and how he felt about it.

His answer was that when one is designing and building at the very edge of the envelope an occasional failure is expected. IF nothing ever fails he said, how do you know where the limits are?

I can understand that attitude, and this years Americas cup demonstrated that even with vast resources of money and talent, things break or otherwise fail.

Glad it isn't on my tab!
