Where is the Ideal Community to Retire With Good Sailing Access

According to the original post, this guy is looking for "a community/city where you can live comfortably and have easy access to marinas". Doesn't mention anything about actually SAILING the boat. That being the case, sure, SoCal may be fine for him. But if he actually wants to sail, be it day sails or more extended trips, I don't think SoCal, or anywhere in California, can even compare to the Salish Sea and Puget Sound area.

Actually,OP does mention sailing.PNW is great in the summer,and west coast of Mexico is great in the winter.Both locations have great marinas and services.If I could cruise all year I would get a big motorsailer and just power up to B.C. in May for the summer,and catch the northwest breeze back to Lapaz in Sept./Oct. In January head down Manzanillo way to stay warm.Living on a boat where it's cold and wet is not fun.

As cheap as boats are getting, might as well have one in each of your favorite spots! (I wish!) But then, getting there is the whole point - isn't it?

There is an area in Cali, everyone fogets ! The Delta, there many miles of good sailing, or powering, and even a bunch of marinas who allow liveaboards, one or two who only allow Sailboats !! LOL weathers pretty good yr around. Great fishing lots of fun things going on year around ECT ECT. spent a bunch of time there and really enjoyed it !! lots of folks winter there and go north in the spring.

If I may expand the discussion beyond the U.S.?

I'm wondering about moving to some place in the Med. (Spain to Greece) where one could have a small, relatively inexpensive, place on land with easy/quick access to the boat. A sort of best of both worlds deal. I'd appreciate any suggestions/ideas/input from those who have been there (where ever "there" is). I currently have a 46' cruising sloop and a steady, moderate, retirement income. Monte Carlo is out but a quiet little Italian/Greek island might just be ideal. Gracias, Merci, Grazie, Thanks.

When we left the PNW for Mexico, all I could think when we hit California was,
"The weather's nice, but oh these poor people with nowhere to sail but from one marina to another !" Expensive too, but I've gotta agree with you about LaPaz and Mexico in general.

Phuket - stay in a marina, stay on the hook for free. Many many islands to explore. Easy to get retiree visa.

Langkawi or Pinang - Plenty to see. Easy visa. Marina or hook.

Philippines / Indonesia - tougher bureaucracy. Cheep. Plenty to see

Vietnam - very difficult for a number of reasons

Singapore - nice base of operations. Very expensive
