Bob is down in Oz. He puts out a free cruisers publication (obviously). Not selling anything. Longtime contributer here and to the Oz cruising community.

Bob Norson is the publisher for the "free" crusiers magazine. The Coastal Passage. For the Australian boating community.

Kai. No "obviously" about it. It's "totally free!"

And Bob Norson is a frequent contirbutor on here. And he's a good friend of mine!

Bob is doing what a number of individuals have tried to do back in his home country, the USA. Latitude 38 (started and still published by Richard Schindler, back when a 'free, good' marina publication was unheard of), Latitude 48 (Pac NW), Spinsheet (for the Chesapeake Bay), and Southwinds (SE USA) are all examples of the same kind of advertising-supported, free to readers monthly publications that Bob has introduced along his section of Oz. However, Bob has taken it a step further in terms of the entire publication being electronically accessible, even for cruisers and expensive cybercafes on limited budgets, something that potentially reaches all of his intended audience.

Bob has an editorial view and he expresses it as he has every right to do. In that sense, his pub is not 'free' - it requires each of us to read thoughtfully. But that seems like a small price to pay...doesn't it?

Kudos to Bob, big time...

Jack

Hi guys! I've been on the road to scout the action down the coast and to cover the big boat show down here. Currently in a unit overlooking the broadwater by Surfers Paradise.

WOW! You guys are great, thank you all!

I won't add any more cause you guys have been kind and astute... you get it!

Thanks for the list of other publications Jack, I only knew of Lat 38. I'll look the others up.

Any/all of you are welcome to the factory... thats where we are when not on the boat. It's a refurbished bread factory/bakery on the beach near Bowen Queensland... Lat 20 degreesS. on the button. Kay makes the best beer on the coast and enough to share around so hope to put one in front of all you!

Cheers and thanks again to you all!!

Bob
