Where in the World is the Best Boat Market?

curious where people think the best boat market can be found?
where does your dollar go the furthest?

am looking for a liveaboard coastal cruiser.. with roughly 4 cabins 2 heads..
under 100k

we want to sail Thailand, but the best deals seem to be in Florida from what we see online..

also what might i expect to pay compared to the listed price?

thanks,,

May be try the great lakes region, plenty to choose from and sweet water doesn't seem to be as hard on hulls.
good luck

How much would it cost to get a boat bought in Florida to Thailand so that you can go coastal cruising there?

If that's your aim, there is no point in just looking at worldwide purchase prices, you need to look at the total cost (in time and money) by the time you arrive at your intended destination.

i'm not sure what the cost is,, but long open passages don't sound too fun.. and our time is worth something..

really set on getting to SE Asia.. as fairly inexperienced sailors the task of going from Canada to Thailand sounds a bit much to start..
3-4 months? might have to pay more to be where we wanna be...

It seems as though you only wish to sail locally so don't bother looking for bargains on the other side of the planet.
Long ocean passages are fun by the way.......crappy weather isn't fun but unlimited blue water is.....

i have noticed great deals in that area.. but we also have some concerns with being US citizens around there.. are my concerns misguided?
have to go through the Suez canal and past a lot of people that are not too stoked on us..

do you think people should be experienced sailors before tackling open passages? or is it not much more dangerous than coastal cruising?

Yes and no.

In many ways it's less dangerous - there's not so much to hit.

But you need to understand navigation and weather, know how to handle heavy weather and big seas(you can't duck into a safe harbour and wait for it to calm down) and how to fix anything on your boat that can go wrong (you can't call for a tow to the nearest mechanic).

If you aren't interested in ocean crossing, you have to buy local to where you want to cruise.

Depending on the size of the boat, you could easily be adding $40-50k just in shippingcosts.

Four cabins and two heads...on a coastal cruiser...to sail to Thailand?

Why does everyone think they can start at the top...without learning enough about the sport even to ask an intelligent question?

It is as if someone is inquiring about jetting off to Cannes or Gstaad without ever having taken a single flying lesson. It's beginning to try my patience.
