Whats this number

Can any one tell me what O.N. 858221 means.

Location: vessel sold at LAKES ENTRANCE to a local. Currently nursing my 93 Y/o mother in Sydney. Next boat probably will be bought in the U.S.

Unless I'm mistaken it is the official number of the vessels Australian (not State) registration.
You should be able to search the # on the 'net and come up with your vessels details and registration currency.
Federal registration is req'd for entry into foreign ports. And probably for exiting Oz as well........afaik.

O.N. stands for Official Number. The O.N. is a unique number assigned by the registry official in the country of registration. In many countries it is a requirement to prominently display this number so officials can identify the vessel during inspection. In the US it is a requirement to also permanently attach/engrave the number in some "hidden" location.

Yep Australian Ships Register Official Number.


A quick look here: List of Registered Ships - Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) tells me that the vessel is

FLYING TYKE, a yacht registered in 1990 in Fremantle

If I wanted more information, I could pay a fee and follow the link on that page to get the current Title Extract giving me more details.
