What's the Weirdest Thing You've Ever Pulled Up from the Bottom ?

We were anchored in Peck Lake off the ICW in Florida the other day, pulled up the anchor to discovere we had snagged another anchor. It was a 44 lb. Bruce with about 15 feet of chain attached — all covered in black mud. I cleaned it up and now have a fourth anchor aboard.

I've snagged crab pots and other stuff, but never a treasure like this.

What's the weirdest thing you've ever pulled up from the bottom?

I pulled up a dead guy once... seriously!
I was lobster diving back in the 70's (yeah I'm THAT old) I was drifting under TeaTable Relief bridge in Islamorada and found a dead guy hung up on a piece of re-bar. He turned out to be a diver that went missing three days before. My ex-wife was not too happy when I wanted to bring him aboard! We wound up tying him off by his foot and waiting on the CG.

Ok, capngeo is going to be one tough act to follow! Yikes!

Well, it wasn't me, but our Dockmaster who two weeks ago went fishing off our dock for a metal pole my husband was hoping to fashion a mount for a wind generator out of. We suspect it blew off the dock on a windy day.

As he fished around with a grappling hook, he pulled up a full fledged fiberglass dinghy covered in all kinds of growth...no sign of the pole though...

The weirdest thing I couldn't pull up was an 8' tall anchor
off of La Jolla.

Ah yes, the one that got away!

We had a small anchor out when me and my teenage buddy were out fishing from a canoe in Minnesota. When we wanted to move, our anchor was hung up. We pulled ourselves by the meager (1/4"?) anchor line over to where we were hung up. As we pulled on the line in 3 feet of water, we could see the bow of an old runabout rising slowly; it was green, as I recall, including the windshield.

Armed some rudimentary knowledge of why and how we were snagged, we pulled from the opposite side and got our anchor back. It is likely that the runabout still sits in the muck.

And when the tornado came through town, it picked up two houses and tossed 'em into the lake. For a few days, you could land a two story bungelow with the right tackle.

I'd rather have the Bruce.

I once snagged a sailboat, complete, sails up, ready to go. Looked to be around 20-25 feet. I could pull it upright and the masthead broke the surface. Took a long time to free my anchor. That was in San Francisco bay.

We pulled up a dodger once. Completely intact, frame attached to canvass attached to window covers. Except for the mud it was in perfect condition.

Didn't actually snag it on my anchor, but I pulled up a smashed cash box with a boat hook. Anchored in a creek running beside a main street with plenty of night life. Boating neighbours in the morning asked if we saw the police chasing robbers along the creek bank. We said 'no'. They said the robbers hurled something into the water close to our boat. At low tide I could just see a lighter shape and managed to pull it up. No cash in it. Rang the police, they asked if I could drop the cash box into the police station, I said only if the station had water access. It didn't so I left it across the creek at a marina so they picked it up there.

Two old geezers are fishin' off the bridge.
Goo Gip says, " I was fishin' here the other night, and pulled in a 400lb grey snapper"
Big Ship says, " Thas' nuthin, I was here las' night, and snagged a lantern, pulled it up, an' it was lit"
Goo Gip says " Now I know you're shi**in' me"
Big Ship says " I'll tell you what, you knock 300lb off that snapper, an' I'll blow out the lantern"

Famous local characters nicknames.

Year after Hurricane Fabian, pulled up the CQR and had a complete Teleflex steering assembly with dash, cables and wheel, with 30 horse Johnson attached.

Re: What's the Weirdest Thing You've Ever Pulled Up from the Bottom ?

A matching pair of Fin-Nor Santiago SA80SW reels on matching custom rods. They were tangled together and one of the hooks caught my rode just above the chain. They had not been in the water more than a couple of days because they were in perfect shape and are now the crown jewels of my collection of fishing gear.

I fished these up in the party anchorage just West of Sailfish Point not far from where OP found his anchor coincidentally.

croatia at marina veruda. working on a dive boat pulled up a 5 step staircase with cement still on the mountings. i think it was steps down to the beach ( reallllly uncomfortable looking nasty metal grating stairs) that washed out when the beach washed out.
