What's the one item you couldn't live without on an ocean passage?

Hi all!

Was wondering what items you desperately wished you had, or were glad you did have, on any extended passagemaking. (like 20 days or more!)

"OMG I am so glad we bought that icemaker."

Or, "HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE DENTAL FLOSS?"

Or, "This Mango Chai Tea really warms the soul on a cold morning with lots of spray." Etc etc etc.

'I really should have brought more books."

edit: Someone also told me boat bottom cream. Really??! Lol,

I'm just curious what the most overlooked, or possibly BEST items are to take with you on a long-term cruising adventure!

Thanks all.

Love.

Minggat came with a shower. I have used it once. Last week I put a fresh water wash down in the cockpit. I am in the anchorage here in La Paz. I have not used the marina showers ashore since I put in the cockpit washdown. It's hot. I can come back to the boat sticky sweaty several times a day and take a refreshing shower each time. I had no idea how much I would love having that thing.

There's lots more "must haves" on Minggat. But this recent addition is a great place to start.

The MOST important instrument in an airplane's cockpit is the COMPASS!

The only single thing that is really essential on an ocean passage is a floating boat... water on outside. Then comes propulsion, then steering. All else is comfort food so to speak!

Cheers,

Jim

I think he meant to ask about the comfort food.

I would rather have an oil pressure gauge because it provides important information that cannot be determined by any other means.

We added a 12 volt charger plug beside the bed- means the iPad with the anchor alarm is beside us instead of on the chart table and we get a better sleep

A companion, say all you want about solo, but having a companion makes the days better. Most the time....
