Animal Planet had them on program called "Top 10 Fastest Animals". The claw the cock and then trip, snaps shut so fast that it creates a little shock wave they use to stun prey...and thats what makes rhe popping sound.

Always knew them as snapping shrimp but the polyester lemnoria is a more likely suspect. Barnacles and mussels are known to be mute.

....and if you put your hand on the bottom where they live, and wait a bit for them to acclimate, you can feel them popping.
