I am tired of struggling to get the sea cock hose off.

I wonder if I can put something on the hose so it is easy to remove in future ?

At the same time I do not want the hose to slip off.

Would silicon sealant work ?

How often are you taking it off? And for what purpose?

If flushing, I'd be inclined to install a T with a valve and a cap instead of taking the hose off.

Lot of options here.

Yards around here often use Red Tacky grease, whatever brand. That's on bronze barbs, I wouldn't use an oil-based grease on plastic. On some of the better-kept boats, we haul and inspect the thru-hulls every winter. The grease really helps, although I wouldn't do this on a neglected boat: better to just let the hose weld itself on, so the boat doesn't sink when the hose clamps rust off.

I have a special poem of mostly curse words I use. Didn't help much and I didn't feel much better afterwards.

Tangent - some recommend heating the hose in hot water for easier installs.

Cutting the hose is the final option if you can't get it off. If you initially leave the hose a little long you can reuse it after a cut.

If you go to an auto parts store, you can ask for "radiator hose grease". This is a product made for the situation you are in. It's not expensive. I believe West Marine sells it as well.

Smear it on the inside of the hose and the outside of the fitting. It won't make the hose slide off, you have hose clamps to prevent that.

While you are at the auto parts store, ask the counter person to show you a "hose removal tool". It looks a bit like a long ice pick with the end bent. Again, not expensive. Ask the person to show you how to use it.

Like in the move, "No wire hangers, ever". "No silicon sealant, ever" on a boat." Some old timers will know what I'm talking about.
Anyway, I use KY jelly or similar sex grease, to mount all water hoses on my boats, including potable water. It is water soluble and very sterile, of course, just think about other uses for this product. Seepages from over-zealous applications wash right off from the water flow inside the fitting and wipe off with a damp rag on the outside. Believe me this works great and I have tried every other lubricant (on boats) known to man over the last fifty years. There is always a tube of it I'm my tool box, you never know when it might come in handy.

Vaseline Available everywhere.
Also use on threads of deck-fill fittings (water, diesel) to assist as thread sealant against water ingress,

Not a good idea. It is petroleum based and will destroy some hose materials.

I will typically use my heat gun on the low setting for this, but I also have been adding to my through-hulls a t-fitting and a valve and a short length of hose(with a cap) so I can winterize in a matter of minutes without having to remove hoses.....
