What Kind of People Do You Meet on Forums? - Part Deux

I saw this thread:

Urgent help please reply asap please - The WoodenBoat Forum

Now I'm coordinating the effort to raise this boat. Why? Because I would hope someone else would do the same for me if Oh Joy sank. Are ya near the Sacramento Delta? We could use the help....

Charlie,
That is incredible. What is the verdict, is she afloat? Thanks for doing what you are doing.

No, she's sunk in about 8' of fresh water. I'm trying to marshal some hands to help out this weekend. Barring that, pros to come out an have a look.

Flotation bags

Wish I were closer.
Down here in hurricane alley, we get practice refloating sunk boats. I have several commercial type flotation bags which you put in various parts of the boat, then inflate them. You can use scba tanks or an air compressor. Placing the uninflated bags is hard work, plus they must be placed so they will lift the boat evenly.

I have used a Harbor Freight, oilless compresser, powered by a cheapo two stroke generator, slow but it works.

Be sure the divers are in a safe location because when the suction breaks, they can come up fast.

Good luck,
Tom

No luck, the water was still two feet too deep. The Pros will be on it as early as tomorrow. Thanks to all who supported this grassroots effort. I'll update as I get news.

Well for future local needs...I have one of these ready to go..but its more the I can load up by myself...so a rental yard might be quicker.

A couple or 3 of them will do the job for sure.
