Everywhere. If I had to pick one spot it would be Tom Neale's island in the Pacific, Suwarrow.

Somewhere warm all year.

When I was younger (still in high school) I thought it would be nice to go cruising around the Med., specifically around Italy and Greece.

Re: What is Your DREAM Sailing Destination?

My preference might be heavily weighted because of nostalgia and sentimentality from sailing in my teens and 20's, but I would vote for Long Island Sound, Connecticut River, Mystic, Newport, Sag Harbor in the summer, Hyannisport, Cape Cod, all that. The old classic Kennedy-era sailing areas. History, beauty, mansions on the water, seafood, gentle summer nights with Chinese paper lanterns hanging in white gazebos on the shore, reflecting off the water. You'd sail up the Mystic River and when you passed the Charles W. Morgan for a second you could imagine what it felt like to sail in Herman Melville's time. Now where's my navy blue, double breasted blazer and white pants?

I could never live there now though (my mother still does) -- the population density and taxes and cost of living is so high it's intolerable and insane, but I sure did love it when I was young and I wasn't working and paying to maintain a household -- just my sailboat.

The Mediterranean for cruising and lifestyle. I have heard that the sailing is not great there, for various non-specific reasons, but I love the Mediterranean culture and climate, and want to live there.

It's still all here, and I do love cruising the area. I think there are less boats out cruising than back in the late '80s. Last summer we anchored in July in Tarpaulin Cove and I think we were the only boat in there. Spent time around Martha's Vineyard and Cuttyhunk too. It's where my wife and I first started ocean sailing about 32 years ago and we still love it there.

Wow, you really enjoy the cold I take it? After living in Alaska for 31 years, I don't ever want to see ice other than in my rum & coke.
