What is the Nicest, Most Elegant, Most Posh Marina You've Been To?

What is the nicest, most elegant, most posh marina you've been to?

I myself would say Dana Point Harbor, CA is the nicest one I've been to so far.

I usually find the first part of your sentence, is negated by the last two phrases!!

Re: What is the nicest, most elegant, most posh marina you've been to?

Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta is the best so far.
I got pulled over by the Dana Point water cops 4 times in 6 days, so yeah, not impressed.
1- Speeding. I was going 4.5 in a 5 zone. GPS
2- Dinghy numbers, there were there & legal, the cops just didn't see them.
3- No dinghy lights- it wasn't dark yet, just nearing dusk.
4- Overstaying in the anchorage- it was our 4th night of 5 nights legally, but they shined bright lights in my boat at 10:30 pm and yelled a lot even though they were wrong.

was there nov 2012, wasn't much to rate good or bad, there are now so few visitors berths , a few were anchored outside the inner wall, must go elsewhere.

The one that was wrecked, wasn't funchal, but a few miles up the coast,

I'll see if I can find the RTP video of the wave of mud and water sweeping through the city and swamping the harbour...

Portorosa Marina, but I would much prefer to be at anchor.

Re: What is the nicest, most elegant, most posh marina you've been to?

In a former life I used to be a referee for a sport in the Paralympics. Travelled the world, to championships, qualifying tournaments, referee requals. National Championship, Provincial Championship.

I always took a club burgee with me and if there was any Yacht Club in the area I was in, I would make an effort to exchange burgee's.

The only club I never got past the front door was in Copacabana Brasil.

Barcelona, I think was the biggest I was ever in.

Athens was pretty elegant.

Long Beach Yacht Club 1999 night before the millennium( we were on our 25, O'day for that one) Long Beach gave use the best welcome.

Kaneohe Yacht Club, we ended up going for a day sail with a member and racing that evening...Thanks Dave!

Slovenia was interesting, but I think it was a language barrier, but nice club

The best fun was at the Cruising Sailor of Australia Yacht Club. I had a day off from refereeing at the 2000 Sydney Paralympic Games and decided to take in the sailing events. I missed getting on the committee barge by 5 minutes but got to wander the site and get places most people don't get to. Anyway I was getting thirsty and hungry as it was just after noon, so I headed out looking for some libation.
I walked 1/2 a block and ran into the Cruising Sailor of Australia Yacht Club. I was signing in the guest register when this Goddess comes power walking in, (I had just finished signing in and started to enter) when the guard asked her if she was a member.
She answers
" No I don't even like boats! I'm just meeting so and so for lunch"
The guard say
"Sorry you cannot enter"
I was dress to spend a day on the water, anyway she looks at me and says to the guard.
"You'll let HIM in but you won't let ME in!"
The guard looks at her and calmly say
"He is a visiting Yachtsman and has reciprocal rights. You will need to be signed in by a member"
I walked to the elevator and she went ballistic......

Always carry your clubs burgee with you...it opens a lot of doors and experiences and people.

Cheers

Yes I know about that , I mean that still in 2012 the new Marina was still basically wrecked ( I was told its was abandoned ) Funchal marina was back more or less the way it was . Anyway that was the story I was told sitting in a nearby bar while storm there for 5 days during a delivery

I would say for amenities, Barefoot Cay Resort & Marina, Roatan, Honduras was the best from San Francisco to Florida.

Nice pool, beach, dive center and even room/bar service delivered to your boat!!!

Yes, nice little marina. We've pulled in there a couple of times just for a break.

The Vinoy Marina in St Pete is also quite nice since you get access to the hotel amenities and are walking distance into St Pete.

Also some very nice old school yacht clubs in Marblehead, Mass.

I don't get to Yacht club hop much, but the nicest one in my experience was the St. Francis yacht club in San Francisco in the late 70s. There was another nice one in San Diego, I think it was the San Diego yacht club. We got reciprocal privileges from being members of the Ketchikan yacht club, which we signed up with on our way south, it was like 6 bucks to be a member.
