Before the hotel, we used to anchor in the place where the docks are.
Do the docks still have bronze cleats that get polished every day?

My Personal list of the nicest ones,
1) Porto Cervo ( Sardinia )
2) Monaco
3) Porto Rotondo ( Sardinia )
4) Marina Frappa ( Croatia )
In those my boat looks like a dinghy. I don't like the attitude of the vast majority of the people in those places.

Portofino in Italy is the most elegant & posh marina I've ever berthed at. We were on a 90 foot monohull, and it felt small compared the rest of the megayachts nearby. While we were there, there was a major rockstar performing a concert in the square right in front of the marina. We had delicious meals at the restaurants around the harbor, and had a 5-star meal at Splendido high up on the hill over the harbor.

Newport Harbor, just to the north has it all over Dana for posh and elegance. So does Coral, across the border to the south. San Diego's Treasure Island ain't so bad either and we haven't even gone very far!

Would have to be 50/50 between PortoCervo, Sardinia (were there during an Oyster owners' rally) and Castiglioncello, Tuscany, which had only opened its new bars, restaurants and shopping facilities the weekend we arrived.

Re: What is the Nicest, Most Elegant, Most Posh Marina You've Been To?
Not the fanciest and quite the opposite but with a nice touch of posh: One year we were staying overnight at a state campus which was the overnight host of a weekend race series. The major sponsor was a newspaper. The docks, stark. Bathrooms? Sure, that building is the gym, feel free to use the showers too. Stark.
But in the morning, some genius at the sponsor had thought to have the newspaper delivered and left next to each boat on the docks. Now, really, do you get that in anything but the finest hotels?
Nice touch of posh.
So what do you folks feel is the sign of a posh marina? They leave chocolates on the electric post? You set out the old docklines, they take them away and have them cleaned overnight? Boatboy comes around asking if you need any laundry and cleaning done?

That is what will keep me out as well. I consider myself a working class slob and don't mix well with people that are better than me.
If you don't believe they feel they are better, just ask them.

Us we have an upscale marina next to us. The know they are better on the docks. That all changes on the water. Sailing isn't about money. It takes skill and is something you never master. It is like golf, you can by fancy clubs but if you can't swing them...

I've been told that I'm what's known as "asocial". I don't ever feel the need to interact socially with strangers. so don't feel bad. I don't mix well with anybody, and they always take it wrong. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I do fine without the complications of dealing with them.

I'm the same way and it causes a little bit of an issue with the wife who isn't like me, so I do my best and try rather awkwardly to be social as I do want to stay married.
I'm pretty sure if I were 40 or 50 yrs younger I would be diagnosed as having Ashburgers syndrome, I say that as my Son has been and he and I are similar in social situations.

Re: What is the Nicest, Most Elegant, Most Posh Marina You've Been To?
I am getting two messages here. One says nicest and one says luxury. Maybe we should divide into two categories. Nicest marina: people understand cruisers, and best showers, friendliest, laundry on premises etc but not $$$, and posh- luxury for those that dock. And perhaps a third- cheapest but livable.
