We also have a 1955 Chris Craft wooden pram. It was a kit boat my father and I built. Never thought I would see another one. It rows just fine. However we left it at home and bought a PortaBote because it is much easier to stow on deck, and it I doesn't scratch the mother ship, and rocks don't hurt it. I would not call it a great rowboat, but I think it rows better than a Rib.
Note: the original oar locks lasted exactly one week...:!

Porte Bote is making a version with an inflatable collar, sort of like a Walker Bay. That kinda approaches a RIB.

I haven't tried it but it should row similar to a regular PB, as long as the tubes don't get in the way. Don't know.

I modified the oar locks on my PB by adding some wood backer and using standard real oar locks and real wood oars. Makes a big difference.

Not a great pulling boat, but a descent row boat. 6hp will push it just fine.

I bought a AB 290 AL double bottom. Rows easily and goes like stink in heavy seas due to deep V design. I have a 15 HP Yammy 2 stroke on her. Well pleased.

Weighs 37 kg so (relatively) easy to lift/launch. PRICY!!

For a RIB to row it's all about the oars and oarlocks. So check those out. Buy good long oars instead of trying to use the wimpy ones.

The best dinghy in the world rows like crap if the oars are too short.. and stock inflatable oars are short & crap..
