Or rated for 100 tonnes.

I and most big boat owners i know would never pick up or trust a mooring anyway unless it was one of the colour coded/ rated ones in marine park mooring only area.

Trust the gear we have, not the unknown whatever at the bottom of a random float.

Even better, avoid patronizing that business as much as possible

Dave, perhaps join the Moreton bay cruisers fb page and start posting pics of offenders and voice your concerns?

Arrived yesterday and it's gone, no buoy no line, nothing.

Thanks, don't know how I missed this, just joined up. I don't know if it's worth the money to replace it now, it causes me a lot of aggravation.

Check to see if there is a boat on the bottom (sunk and holding down the buoy etc). Won't be the first time that has happened!

Oh, Dave, what an aggro!

Maybe someone drove over it and cut the pennant?

Sorry to hear of your troubles.

Hahahahahaha, I hadn't thought of that, I'll have to have a look at what's left on the bottom anyway, that would be a surprise !

Thanks Jim.

That could happen after the main buoy on the rope pennant but the first buoy had chain, I think if they did pick up the chain by accident that they might rip out the screw which was attached to a concrete block.... there might be a boat down there after all.

I'm just not sure it's worth keeping, it was very expensive to put in but not expensive to keep except I regularly have to repair it because of uncaring idiots damage it and sometimes I have to fight for the right to use it. I can't even be sure it is secure when I use it because I don't know what the last bloke did to it. I attached a cheap kayak to it once, but someone stole that.

I thought about making up a special 2 part attachment that would prevent connecting to it unless you had the right other half. If I can do that it might be worth another go.

I even thought a remote controlled release might be fun.

A "remote submarine" drone, connecting lines stay at the bottom until summoned.

Buoy up top just there as a marker, put a plaque on it,

Jolly Roger each side of

"No anchoring here! Trespassers will be shot and their boat scuppered - you have been warned! See Harbor Master with any enquiries"

Really tempting..
I had a guy on my dock that was not supposed to be there.
If I cut his lines, I would be responsible for damages to other boats in the area hit by the bad boat.
If the onwner is an arseh@ole looking to take advantage of you, call the bad guys and have them tow his boat away. Not your problem, his boat got stolen.
Then stripped and chopped.
Would I do that?
Yes.
Florida man is going to Florida man I guess.

Personally I’d look into making some type of locking cone for the top that would prevent one from trying up to it without the lock removed, clearly mark it as a private as you did with your vessels name, maybe even in retro reflective paint.

Re: What if someone has tied to your private mooring

@Dave_S:

Forgive my naivety, but I'm amazed your mooring has been so abused! Having it must save you between 6 and 7k a year in mooring fees, which will become a cost again, if you have to get back into a marina. What a bloody nuisance!

I could imagine a scenario where you could maintain film surveillance of the mooring for 3 months or so, see who comes on it, and let the authorities deal with them. But you're back to a hassle again, either way. How much hassle is worth your time? Maybe you could join RQYS, they have a few berths and reciprocal privileges with other Royal clubs.

Good luck with it in any event.

Ann

Re: What if someone has tied to your private mooring

Wouldn't it be cheaper to simply have decent ground tackle and use it instead of maintaining a mooring at Moreton Island that you rarely use?

Thanks Ann

I think it is because it is in the Tangalooma boundaries and people think they are using the resorts equipment and somehow feel justified in abusing the gear. I'll just get tougher with people and with their boats, no one seems interested in towing the boats off it. I might do the camera name and shame files and see what happens.

The mooring is directly in front of our house. To keep insurance on the boat when not on board it needs to be on that exact mooring not at anchor. We expect to move there permanently in the next couple of years. We had intended to be here by now but **** happens.

Sucks to hear about the loss/sinking of your mooring.
When you get it back in operation, how about marking it
