Re: What Hat to Wear While Sailing ?

been wearing a Frill Neck (Frillneck UTE Products) for years, get a few curious looks ashore but at sea they are comfortable and you can cover up to all but your sunglasses when it's really bright.

Re: What Hat to Wear While Sailing ?

Skipmac, the Tony Bahama hat we speaking of is shown in post # 21 in this thread. Mine is the same except for the band shown it's mesh top and full brim that is quite stiff and not effected by wind ! it could use a chin strap for those gales LOL but because of the mesh top thats easy to fix !! anyway they come in more then one colar but I have a grey one( same as my beard LOL)

Here in Ireland it's more down to keeping warm, not shielding from the sun.

Same up my way. I don't see the sun often enough to worry about UV exposure.

I prefer tin foil. Passing satellites set up for mind reading are the number one cause of alien abductions from small boats. Please note the antennae for a proper Faraday cage. They are essential

You're not the only one. I have the same problem. I Love Tilley hats, but they are pretty much useless on the boat. Put any wind on them and the brim flops all over the place. All I want is a wide, stiff brimmed hat that can handle some rain, and is cool enough to use on the hot days (which aren't too many up here on Lake Superior ).

Actually, I think someone posted a link to Barmah hats which might do the trick. I haven't bought one yet. Anyone currently using one?

We despite sunhats with brims... Seem to seriously reduce people's brainpower... Folks just seem to keep bumping our poor mast with their heads when they're wearing them.

Hi Bob,

OK, now I'm thoroughly confused. I found a web site for Tommy (not Tony) Bahama hats and the link in post #21 is for Barmah hats from Australia.

When you mentioned lead I was wondering if they put that hat on people and then use them as a lead line. You know, just a quick loop around the ankles and pitch em in.

Late to this thread but there is no doubt what I wear! It covers the ears and stays on usually. When I go down the tropic I will probably look like Obiwan Kniobi...
