What does the s/v in 's/v boatname' mean?

Hi, quick question for a noob. When people online refer to their boat as s/v and followed by their boat name, what does the s/v stand for?

And some call their boat: S/Y "Boatname"
SY stands then for Sailing Yacht.
I will leave it to others to explain the difference between SV and SY.
(hehehe, because I don't know)

The difference between s/v and s/y is not quite the same as the difference between m.v. ( British usage ) and m/s ( Scandinavian usage).

I must say I prefer s/y myself.

RV= Research
SV = Sailing
MV= Motor
FV= fishing

I'm sure there are others, just those I remember this morning

Don't forget 'S/S' which can mean either 'sailing ship' or 'steam ship'

They are referred to as Ship Prefixes. Here is a larger list:
