Re: What Does Every Sailboat Need ?

There is nothing in life like cruising on sailboat, far away or not! But just to add to what's been said, the inescapable fact remains that a good anchor and as much chain as you can afford to have (space wise) bring peace of mind and are, after all is being said and done, cheap insurance. The biggest anchor that fits on the bow roller is a pretty good rule of thumb. Have a backup one as well. And, while cruising anywhere - the wonderful Bahamas among others - a good inflatable dinghy with a good - 8 hp at least - outboard. Your taxi has got to be reliable, large enough for two and supplies, and as confortable as can be in a seaway. Fair winds!

A bottle of rum. No respectable boat should be without rum.

Re: What Does Every Sailboat Need ?

Sounds like we're doing better than we thought. We pretty much have everything people have suggested. We're buying our Standard Horizon GPS today (plus we have a handheld, and Navionics on our iPhone). We'll pick up some paper charts, some additional belts, I think we have a couple spare impellers....any recommendation for a good H2O epoxy?

What about spares for the engine? We have spare filters and impellers. We'll pick up belts. Anything else in that department that would be useful?

Now to get some good rum.

Re: What Does Every Sailboat Need ?

Oh, on another thread I think you mentioned you are traveling with a dog. Please do not be like the people on the ICW that posted they lost their dog overboard when they were not looking. Never heard back from them which is not good.

Re: What Does Every Sailboat Need ?

Sounds like youve got it covered.

No matter what gets suggested here, the most important item will be the one you think of after you've left.
