Our Sailing Club (Changi Sailing Club) is one of the prettiest place in Singapore
. Unfortunately there is a "bum boat" ferry service
between the mainland and Pulau Ubin. These are heavy displacement
40 foot smoke belchers. They run about 20-30 boats an hour right past our moorings. Working on the boat has been compared to working on a boat inside a washing
machine. We are also on swing moorings and I have always had a hankering for a proper finger dock
Last Sunday with mixed feelings we finally moved to SAF Changi to a really slick finger dock
with running water
electricity and everything. Upon arrival there were all kinds of folks on the dock. Many stated, "We heard you were coming over. Welcome." Many helped to tie us up and a few beers were offered. It was great.
Today I wanted to get something off the boat and it was a 10 minute affair instead of a 40 minute affair. The new Marina is 10 minutes from my apartment instead of 20. And with the southwest Monsoon set in we are on the "right" side of the island to take advantage of it. On the leisurely trip over we only flew the genny & had 18 knots of wind
and 4.5 kts boat speed with Otto driving.
In addition we have the opportunity to day sail and overnight to new destinations such as St. John's island. Should be fun!
