A colleague spent 2 summers in his Bavaria 34 cruising from the baltic to the med through the canals. He shipped the mast to his final destination to avoid that.

We will be going through the canals at some point,snd even thou we are 45ft long, we have swing keel and only draws 4ft keel up,,,14ft wide and steel ,,,just the job

Even less than 1.5 now as reduced by weight of mast,
but air draffft will increase,,,lol

It was a shoal draft version and the point to shipping the mast was so they did not have it hanging over their heads, not weight savings
