What Are They?

Getting the new-to-us Belize ready for the move from SEQld to PNG. None of the pros at the Boatworks can tell me what these are.

Item1. My guess is a solar powered active radar reflector, but if it is, I've no idea who made it.

Item2. Appears to be something to do with the winch, but I can't see anything that it is meant to attach to.

Who can identify them?

Re: What Are They?

You don't suppose that's the sending unit for one of those oddball wind gauges, and the receiver for it? No idea what they are, any of them. Sorry.

Stu I have no clue sorry.
But if you are still at Boatworks how about some photos of the Homeless project as your camera works.

Re: What Are They?

Well the thingie on the mast is way up there for a reason. It is solar powered - COuld be anything from an electronic reflector to a ultrosonic bird scarer - Any markings on it anywhere? Brand name? something?

The clue for the other bit may be the locker in which it is kept. It looks like the anchor locker. It is clearly used to pole something out and not need to be released "quickly" - Something to do with anchoring but like others I am stumped by both pieces.

Usually someone pops in by now...

Re: What Are They?

My bet is that the thing on the mast is an elaborate cruising forum thread creator.

(Actually I just want to make sure I follow the thread so I see the answer when someone posts it)

Re: What Are They?

Sometimes on these really tough ones I google images and see if I recognize anything...

I've done a few different searches.

One thing came to mind was a wifi repeater, antenna, booster or hotspot - didn't see anything that looks like that...

1. Not quite, but it got me looking in the right direction. (Edit - found the exact one. It's an external alarm for an intruder system - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUXHOME-LH...-/261791897164)

2. It's almost certainly something to do with the Goiot electric anchor winch, - the hole in the end fits over a heavy bar with a handle on the end which also fits into the holes you can see in the drum beside the gypsy at lower right. But I can't see anything that the "jaws" would fit round.

Re: What Are They?

Well done CF - Once again!

Yeah - the gypsy thing. I shoulda thought. My brother has something like that. He uses it to clear chain jams. Actually he uses the pole the most to "stir the chain in the locker so it all fits - LOL...

Alarm system - Never woulda guessed that one...

Certainly wouldn't have guessed that.

Great - thanks for that.

I found a couple of other Goiot windlass manuals but not that one.

Once again CF comes through
