Re: We've lost our prop while under sail and need a FAST replacement. Any HELP? PLEA

Max props have a habit of falling off if not properly installed. PYI is probably your best source for a replacement, but they are expensive. You should be able to find a 2" shaft fixed prop in St Thomas, but not all prop shaft tapers are the same. Merry Xmas.

That sucks. I wish you luck finding a replacement Prop soon at a resonable price, hope Santa will be good to you.

Merry Christmas

Any prop can be lost if not properly installed. This is not inherent to Max Props.

Oh I don't know about that... Cheechako is concerned that I call charts a map... and you know what? I also still call my galley a kitchen, and my head a bathroom. LOL

Woke me up!

A 63' Tri, yep, I agree, need to get a prop on it, cause what you already pulled off impressed me.

So you guys are the most recent owners of Freedom. That is a beast to maneuver even with the prop!!!

Freedom, that is what I call charting a rocket ship. Probably capable of 14 kt under power, 20+ under sail if the guests are up for it. You can hang a lot of laundry with a 33' beam. I'm a bit jealous but also happy for you. Hope you get your prop before the next charter.

Personally, I'd forget about an expensive folding prop for a charter. Just get a regular 2 or 3 blade fixed and call it good. The drunks will never notice the difference.

I'd stay with the Max Prop. You have an high performance tri, and the Max Prop feathers, doesn't fold, but more important is it reverses pitch for astern propulsion which allows you to set the hook with some good grunt. Later if you want extra electrons for all those on board systems, while you sail, that prop if last used was astern, will spin a generator.

If it is calm enough, you can push ahead with the dinghy. Just need a couple of tires for pushing. Two lines from the bow to hold it in position, two lines from the stern for directional control. Easy sneezy. Otherwise, tow astern. A tri won't tow on the hip very well at all.

Apparently Barbie got it fixed. I saw them motoring in the harbor at sun rise a couple of days ago.
