We went for a great Sunday sail..., pity it didn't stay great.

Turns out, Oh Joy's season is over after the old Perkins threw a rod. We started out on a nice hull speed close reach up to the San Juan Channel on the way to Friday Harbor:

YouTube - Hull speed close reach

We ran into a 6 knot current through the rocks with no wind and had to fire up the Perkins to stay off the real estate. As you can hear, the engine was going South fast. It didn't sound like this earlier.

YouTube - Nasty chop with a sick engine

Later, it ended up locking tight as we dodge more rocks after midnight trying to get home. Vessel Assist to the rescue once again. Now I have to figure out how to get through Deception Pass and into Maritime Services at LaConner with no engine in a 5 knot cross current. It oughta be fun.

It sounds like its time to go with something other than an old Perkins.

CharlieC,

Thanks for the videos--always enjoy your sailing adventures! Too bad about the Perkins.

Ah well, I was hoping it'd last until refit in August. Now I get to work on her in some dry weather. Ya can't beat that up here. Besides, I can break out the old V-21 to temper my sailing joneses while she's on the stands.
