Was Thinking About Buying Another Sailboat

I found a good deal on a 70's MacGregor Venture 17. I managed to get the price down to 900$ with trailer and no motor. The boat seems in good condition. The keel has some cracks in it, deck is in good condition. Has a colapsable furler with 3 sails in good condition.

I currently have an Evans 16 sailboat, it has an open cabin, the trailer is not so good because it makes the boat quite wobbly when trailered. I dont have a spare tire for this trailer. No furler, the keel is good. Also, my main has no reefing points. The Evans 16 is a nice boat with a very wide and spacious deck, at its narrowest is 6foot where the macgregor is 5. The beam on the macgregor is 6.3ft as the evans is 6.8.

I am basically trying to decide if i should get the Venture 17 and sell my boat.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

I am not a trailer sailor, so I have no suggestions concerning the pros or cons of either boat. I will suggest you consider what plans you have for your future sailing and decide which boat would best fill your needs. I would caution, on involving too much "If I had this boat I could...". Stay with what sailing you really want to do.

I've sailed in Macgregor 25's. they're nice since you can put a bigger motor in it and get to the bar quicker after a race.

There's a lot of MacGregors out there. I think they even have a web site.

Hi Andrei,
Quite a choice. I think the $900 is worth getting a better trailer. Just move your Evans over and see what parts you can get off the Venture to make the Evans more to your liking. Might even swap the mast from Venuture to Evans.
Just a thought or two.
A Macgregor 25 is nothing like a 17 and there are lots of different models of 25.
kind regards,
