Visiting Tampa Aug 7-9; room on your boat for 2 for a day?

I will be in the Tampa Bay area the week of August 6-10.

Is there anyone in the area who is going out for a day sail any time Aug 7, 8 or 9? I'd love to join you, along with a local friend who never has been sailing, and who is somewhat concerned about the ocean, although she has lived on the Gulf all her life. She says she is willing to learn. In other words, I don't think rail in the water the first time out would endear her to the sport.

I myself have limited experience, most of that in the Gulf Islands of Vancouver Island. Would love to get an idea of your thoughts on marinas and brokers in your area, as I will be buying a condo there, as well as looking for a boat.

Go out to the Davis Islands Yacht Club on Thursday nights and ask the bartenders or anyone to go out on a boat for the Thursday night races. Take a six pack. You'll have a great time.

I would not bring along a person who has never sailed before and who is nervous about it for the first time on a racing boat, especially with an unknown skipper. All the racers I know would put the rail in the water in a heartbeat if it would help them win the race.

I would normally jump up and volunteer but with any luck I'll be helping to move a boat during that time.

These are generally cruising boats not dedicated race boats. In August winds are generally light. This is a good way for a non sailor to get more familiar with big boat sailing at next to no cost.
Don't know the skipper? This is a well known Tampa club. Not an issue.

Thanks for the Davis Island suggestion. If I was by myself, I would have no problem doing that.

Perhaps some one from the Tampa area can respond and we can contact you directly?

I am away for the summer. Have you looked at googling local sailing clubs or the St. Petersburg Sailing Center? I know there is a local singles sailing club in the area. Also look for rental boats. Good luck.
