... No point in name calling because you do or do not choose to be armed.
And yet, some of us do, sometimes (name call).

Quoted from this thread, which has not yet crossed the line and been closed:

... no choice w/o running like a coward.
... Every year this government makes an attempt undermine our Constitution because they know it worked for hitler, stalin, mussolini and the communist in order to control the people.
... they are so brainwashed with pc crap they can't think straight.
... All this other stuff is just macho BS
... Police chiefs? The same ones that run for their office and bend with the political tide?
... It's only a survey until the NRA hears about it and sends their members in; then it will become propaganda.
... In the USA I'll bet most gun owners are better people to be around then the one who don't own guns.
... New Year Resulution.... don't anchor near boats with US flags

All of which were "pushing towards" the limit. We've expressed "strong feelings, without actually "crossing the line" (WELL DONE), but someone will (cross that line), eventually. ):

A genuine sentiment...

Gord... I reckon you were a journalist in a previous life... you have the love for the edited 'sound bite'..... you make me sound really racist...
Funny its not in context with the film that had some crazy shooting himself in the head with a flare gun and my follow up to the above which was " these guys might be aboard"...
But then you would not have the effect you seek... would you....
All of which were "pushing" the limit.

"As to a boat I can see no practical use. "
Dave, I agree that boats are impractical.<G>

What ever happened to the 50's, when every Atlantic cruise liner carried 12g shotguns and offered skeet shooting off the stern for the gentlemen onboard?

And the waterfowl that sometimes can be found afloat offshore certainly qualify for duck hunting, even if they're not as tasty as the rails to be found on shore.

Guns are not always about shooting someone or weapons. Although, the ducks and skeet clays may think otherwise.

Ummm, obviously not the majority.
The desire to carry weapons is no different than what religion you belong to or what political party you are associated with.

It does not belong on this forum!!!!!!!

With all due respect,
Who says?

For some, weaponry is a part of cruising, occasionally for reasons other than those which many have presupposed. If I was cruising with my mutts through the Queen Charlotte Islands for example, or the North Channel in the fall, I'd make sure that I had a bear gun with me for shore excursions.

The title of this thread is pretty clear. If someone is sensitive to the discussion, that's okay- avoid the thread. If one is offended by unfettered mammaries, one would not enter a topless bar no matter how badly they needed a drink. if you do enter, however, you lose the right to complain about the view.

It appears to be impossible to use logic to persuade emotion. That's why gun threads exists because of there entertainment value.

Some revert to their constitutional right to have a gun to protect them from the government that protects their freedom to have a gun to...er-well.

hang it there mods. Peace on Earth and all that.

Merry Christmas.

“A genuine sentiment...” can be insulting and inappropriate on CF.
For instance, I doubt (would hope) that
“Gord’s a total *******”
would be not allowed to stand, even though a heartfelt and accurate statement.

It's not at all, about differing opinions.

LMAO.... nice one...

Anyway to paraphrase an oft repeated quote on gun threads... "Never take a knife to a gun fight"

In the UK its "Never take a knife to a fist fight...."
Four guys, two with blades jumped a 67yr old guy in an underpass in Poole a few years back... unfortunately for them they'd picked on a fit former SBS man... 3 ended up in hospital with assorted broken bones... last heard the fouth is still running.... no charges were brought...

It's not the topic it's the behavior of the posters. It's been a bit heated at times and not really what we would desire in all threads. It's not really close-able yet. This thread will end badly because strong opinions won't change. It's not that they should converge on one but it does get competitive. Competitive topics always end badly because - ain't no winners unless there are losers.

Why not close it right away? It would just come back as a new thread tomorrow. One good long thread every few months seems to satisfy most of the members that want one. We can have a little bit of a lot of things as long as we don't get a lot of some things.

Ironically I'm sitting here listening to "Gun Shy" by Natalie Merchant
