Then there's also the updated version of my old boat a NACRA (not Hobie) F17. It will even fly like ETNZ's boat. Those curved daggerboards sure look familiar:

Good point. That's what I'm trying to get across to some of these guys that the tactics of racing monohulls and catamarans is totally different............but it's still pretty awesome to watch these big monohulls go at each other especially when they are this close. Also, you have to admit that Dean Barker can darn sure drive a sailboat............

So what? You posted a few videos of racing cats. There are plenty more where that came from. I would argue that controlling a foiling boat is much different. A Moth is probably closer.

Okay, I'm just saying that the tactics are the same with the smaller catamarans which is why Glen Ashby is around. You saw how Team Oracle USA just shut down all boat speed on that terrible tack at the mark in race 5.

They were basically dead in the water while ETNZ did it properly and sailed around the mark with speed, extended, then tacked at their convenience. Had Team Oracle done that, I believe we would have seen a much different race.

The AC72 doesn't foil upwind (well, it does, but we haven't seen much of that yet). I think his point was that catamarans are very slow in tacks relative to mono's but they build up speed after very quickly relative to monos.

So, to tack before hardening up was a dramatic loss in speed for them compared to a similar move on a mono. The angle they tacked through took more time to rebuild speed than if they had hardened up first.

I am not quite sure why US team does not hire Barker and his boys to sail Oracle. After all the aim is to win the damn thing, right?

As a grinder, ETNZ set up looks much more ergonomic. On a cat I think the transverse layout would be easier to use. The Oracle pedestals are too low, and tey have to stand which hurts your back. ETNZ can sit down and grind. Sitting also improves your ability to look around.
