Book a Royal Caribbean cruise and you can experience that wave action. They seem to ignore sea state.

As long as the rum holds out, no worries.

Re: Try to Imagine This.....

OK .. so its a bit fresh but no green water coming over the bow.

Doubt the steward even had to dampen the table cloths or raise the fiddles.

Have I missed something??

Oh... and the sun is out... what's not to like...

Get your hand off it, Darryl...

Maybe 3 or 4 days a year...mind you when its dark who knows what it looks like.

Looks more like a SW'ly out on the 100 fathom line seaward of Port Shepstone... saw the front half of a 100k dwt ship vanish into the front of a bit of green stuff there once... speed went from about 7 knots to four fifths of not very much at all in the blink of an eye....

For us that would soil our pants in that kind of ocean, how high are those seas?

Re: Try to Imagine This.....

The deck on that ship is probably 40ft above the waterline.

Re: Try to Imagine This.....

Pretty buoyant bow on that tub. I would have thought it would have got a bit a green water over the pointy bit.

Anyone can take a video of mid winter storms or the Horn or in a Hurricane etc, but WE don't need to be there or then. If people sail in the correct season they are very, very unlikely to see that crap.

OK theres the 5 places in the world you can even in the correct season, but nowadays that weather is predicted:
The Horn
Cape of Good Hope
Bass Str8
Continental Shelf into the BrExit Channel
Gulf Stream

If I was out there in that crap I would be edging out of the 'zone' or para anchor, drogues, hove to etc etc.

Try to Imagine This.....

Out of curiosity, would any of the waves in this clip be considered breaking waves? Perhaps the one at about 20 seconds in the upper right of the frame?

Thanks for sharing Ken, pretty impressive...

Re: Try to Imagine This.....

I saw several breaking on the horizon - a few hit near the ship.

I think the worst big ship videos have to be around Magellan strait or beagle channel. There are a few regrets I have like turning down a chance to sail from cape Town to Helena. Beagle channel isn't one of them.
