After a sail like that, you come home and talk about the exhilarating day you had on the water.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Its a 5 day trip. I am going with two canadians, that have done this trip before.
After 5 days we will be in miami, and then off to the keys to relax.

That is pretty good time. When did you do this trip last?

What's your departure date?

Did you get your steering all squared away?

Can you do basic math!?!?

I'm just pulling rough numbers out here.

1200 miles/ 5 days = 240 miles a day.
240 miles/24 hours = 10 knot average!!!!

AVERAGE!!!!
Against the stream!!!!!
In order to average 10 knots you'll need to offset every hour of 5 knot speeds with an hour of 15 knot speeds!!!!

In real world sailing you will have an 8-10 day trip.

We will be outside the stream. 100-150 miles out.
Thats the time he said.
And its 10mph, not 10 knots

Re: Transit time? NY-FL

I disagree that it's a 5 day trip. Our 42 foot Catalina sailboat took 7 or 8 days (hubby says 8, I seem to remember 7) from Fort Lauderdale to Long Island Sound so that was even traveling with the Gulf Stream. That trip was in April. They hit a storm with high winds and didn't even use all the diesel they had on board (38 in the tank, another 20 on deck). I think your math is definitely off.

240 miles per day comes down to 10 miles per hour - not knots.

Unless you're in the ICW which is in statute miles all distances at sea are in nautical miles. Therefore 240 miles per day is 10 knots.

From an old sailor that sailed in ships when 240 miles a day was a good day's run.

For new sailors just punch a few buttons on your GPS before punching your computer keyboard.

How in the hell do you figure nautical miles are measured in MPH? 1 knot is 1 NM/HR.

Either way if you can pull off consistent 240 mile 24 hour runs for 5 days I'll eat a shoe.
