Hi. You've received some great advise. I'm interested to know if you contacted the local police and coast guard and what if any help have they proposed. Have you put up notices in the kcal Marina? As another poster said I wouldn't be wasting anytime before getting on the radio and getting the word out to all within earshot. While dealing with all of this please find a local clinic ASAP. The added stress etc. of what your dealing with along with your medical condition could cause impaired thinking. This is the time you need a clear mind. Its a shame you are alone. Don't be afraid to come clean with a friendly face around the Marina about your medical situation and say you need help to deal with this. I could be way off base but my intuition is pretty good. Again I'm very sorry for the situation you are in. Good luck.

Ok so dive where you where anchored. If the anchor is still there then you know the road chafed and you boat is adrift. So your looking for adrift boat. If anchor is not there it may be adrift may be borrowed.
I have anchored in the sane spot and I free dived there. In is pretty much as flat slab of rock with 3inch of sand on it.
Super sad to here this happened. Stay positive tho it a descent chance it will be found.

even in dead calm , that area has a ripping tide of about 5 knots and the bottom is not great holding when the tides changes, soooo its likly your anchor dragged and your boats on the north bound expressway, lets hope no one runs into it at night & you get it back

I'm with Muckle Flugga and the other posters who think you should dive the area, for two reasons, first that it gives you something you can do with your body rather than worrying, and that if you can find the anchor and rode, you can sell it, too.

Areas like that are infamous for boats dragging on the change of the tide, but I would have thought the Mantus would have tried to stay put. Not to suggest you didn't do it, but was the shackle moused? Finding a cut rode would point towards theft: chafed, to being adrift.

A notice to mariners to be on the lookout for the boat, complete with pictures of the boat would make it easier for a proper search. You need the efforts not only of the cruising community, but also merchant and Coast Guard vessels' assets. The longer it takes to get the search going, the less likely you are to see Dagny again, I'm afraid.

Good luck with this, it can still come out okay, and get back on your meds, There has to be a way.

I have no idea what to say, to be honest, cos there's nothing to say that'll magically bring your boat back ...

Just remember: as she's still afloat, there is hope! She could have been taken or she's adrift.
In both cases she can be found, and the more people know about it and have pictures of your boat, the better the chances someone will spot her and let you know.

Diving to see if your anchor is still there, calling the coast guard and getting the word out by contacting local cruisers etc. (online and IRL) is all sound advice.

Hang in there, get the word out (let us know if we can help!) and don't give up on her yet ...

Edit: can you provide some recent pics that show her from the side, as she is currently painted?

Ann. I believe he had lost his good mantis anchor earlier in the voyage and was using his back up. There is a full account on his blog. svdagny.com

To Gil - there is a cruisers net on ch 66( you may already have this info). I cannot imagine what you are going through but try to stay positive and don't give up. I hope the local cruising community has gotten ahold of you, wish we were there to help.

Hi Gil,

I am putting in a word of support. I hope you followed some of the great advise you have heard here.

I recently read an account of a couple who's boat went wandering in Mexico. 3 weeks later, the boat was spotted by a fisherman who had heard the call and the boat was returned to the owners with everything in tact. Not every one out there is a jerk. There are lots of honest folk too!

I hope you recover your boat swiftly!
