Re: Tragedy Strikes.

I'm in Myrtle Beach, SC in a Marina along the ICW and just tried to ping a position to gil's MMSI number... no response.

But yes, the Standard Horizon has a very intuitive DCS menu. I was able to accomplish it without a manual. At least I now know how and that this tool is available.

Or anyone else I suppose. I did a quick look at his blog and didn't see it or anything about him for that matter. I did find it to be a very basic blog that certainly wouldn't attract any programming business. Of course YMMV.

Good for you, and thank you for doing something constructive and sharing it here. If nothing else, I am thrilled that you were able to try out that particular feature of your VHF. Who knows, maybe it'll come in handy and help you out some time. Karma is funny that way.

I personally had not thought through the interesting usecases for DSC position requests until this thread, so all the bickering aside, it's been useful to me at least..

Now, who else is sending pings to Gils MMSI number?

Maps are good, and thanks for posting. Happy to learn that your previous post wasn't aimed at me. My apologies. Your 4th & 5th sentences I'll disregard, because I assume that you are wise, and unlike rainh2o2 you realize that there was much to learn from my initial posts to the OP. In rainh2o2's defense, it gets cold in the northern states in January (I, of all people, should know), thus explaining his confusion.

Happy sailing.

Can I use that on TapaTalk? And if so would it clean up the thread?

OG is Back!

We need a "miss you" button, so we don't accidentally ignore ourselves.

I don't know Salty Mike, maybe try the tech help sub forum. And yes, blessedly, it cleans it up nicely. But I've only used that button twice. You can also subscribe to a certain CFer, like Gil, and you will be notified every time he posts.
Hope that helps.

Re: Tragedy Strikes.

NOTICE: I have deleted about half of the posts in the last ten pages. If I deleted yours it was due to one of the following reasons:
1) You were being not nice
2) You were arguing with someone for not being nice
3) You were wondering why the moderators put up with this @#$%
4) Some other reason along these lines
5) Because I just felt like it

I am issuing no warnings, etc. Your particular post may have been completely within the regular rules of Cruiser's Forum, but the thread had turned to garbage and I am trying to salvage it as best as I can. I apologize for disrupting any pleasant conversations you may have been enjoying. Please try to keep future postings on-topic, or at least polite. I reserve the right to do further shotgun-style deletions as I see the need. PM me if you have a complaint.

Happy New Year,
Paul (volunteer moderator)

Haha! I saw this coming. No complaints, at all. And my apologies. I should have posted nothing, or at least should have gracefully bowed out many pages ago.

The best part of your post? Reason #5! I'm still laughing. Love it!

Happy 2016!

Re: Tragedy Strikes.

Pauley, been thinking. WE, as a forum are clearly distressed by Gils loss. That is obvious to all. But how in the name of Heaven can we remain remorseful while youre trying to kill us all? If PCM & I just loved it, esp #5, how are the others going to remain sincere and serious when they get out of bed? Did you think about that?
OMG I hope I'm not drawn 'n quartered for this!!
My moneys on Gils boat turning up before he flies to Paris. Lets hope so
Cheers. Lara.
