Given that sighting position, it seems that anchor must still be attached to the boat. Dragged clean off the banks and into deep water, and now it's acting as a sea anchor. The wind has been blowing hard for days from the E and SE, so if the boat was drifting free I'd expect it to be farther west. But it looks like it's been more controlled by current than wind, and it's not yet out in the full strength of the Gulf Stream.

Here's hoping your personal SAR mission is underway by now, and with a successful recovery (ignited with some fantastic logistical initiative from OceanGirl and RD).

Need to maybe hurry it up too, there is a very strong frontal system that has been progressing across the NA continent for two days.
Do not know if this system will hold its' force as it leaves FL and enters Atlantic waters heading that way, but it has spawned a huge amount of damage in the US (+274 WX incident reports, ~24 tornadoes listed on the SPC WX site for yesterday, ~5-7 fatalities).

Good luck. Tough lesson too.
When I was a kid my Sunfish (which I had left unattended briefly ) worked its way off the beach and drifted waaay offshore on a calm day. The good ol' USCG found it and pulled it aboard their MLB, then returned to port; where I sheepishly picked it up. :[

So when the USCG spotted his boat did they know it was adrift or do they just keep a record of every vessel they see?

The USCG has some pretty advanced SAR software for estimating position of a boat adrift. I wonder if they would provide you with a best guess for the boat's current location and likely trajectory, given the date/time/position of the last sighting.

I've had nightmares of my boat lost on the beach, due to large waves. So I can relate to the stress and anxiety. That said you gotta have someone in the air, You should get to the private airstrip and tell as many people as you can. Someone flying in can help as well, with any sightings. See if you can pay someone to fly recon for you going to that general area where it was last seen. Could only cost a couple hundred at most and I'm sure that much could be raised off this site in a day. Get a gps fix and blast out there on a powerboat. Don't get towed in unless you absolutely have to. If you do accept a tow get the terms in writing, (tow company) good Samaritan could tow you but you toss him a line off your boat, not his. There is Paypal and "Go Fund Me " to raise the cash.

I too lost one off a beach in Matagorda Bay, Texas. 23' homebuilt sailboat, apple of my eye! Next day, a close friend brought his fast fishing boat, 4 hour search finally turned it up, it had sailed 90 degrees to the wind, across Matagorda bay ship channel, in the dark, no lights. My wallet and cell phone were still sitting on top of the center bulkhead, she rested on a weed patch in a small side cove.

Can't wait to hear of this successful recovery!
