Tool Libraries

We're in the process of de-housing ourselves to move on the boat. I have a bunch of tools. Stuff that will not go aboard, like drill press, table saw, mitre saw, band saw, dc welder. I've been trying to convince the owner of our marina that he should take a bunch of my tools and start a 'tool library' in a great workshop space at the marina. Idea being that cruisers could rent tools and use them in the workshop for repairs off the boat. Of course my ulterior motive is that I would have all my old tools available to me while we are living in the marina, and still working on the boat.

Do any of you guys know of similar setups, and how they're working out? This would be at South Side Marina on Providenciales, and it would make it a good place to pull into if you were between the Exumas and Luperon and needed to work on your boat. We just discovered this week that the marina crane is perfectly fine for lifting a mast off.

Re: Tool Libraries

104 views, and nobody knows of one. Okay, well, that tells me something.

Re: Tool Libraries

Thanks, their regulations/policies are of interest. I'm thinking more pay-per-use than library membership, catering to a transient clientele, but other than that the concept is pretty simple. I'm trying to get a sailor's exchange kind of thing going, too, as a place to buy and sell cruising equipment on commission, or something.

I just made the proposal this morning. Will see what happens.
