Re: Tips for taking sails in for repairs.

The question I have is where to have him set the reef. First step is to figure out what size Genoa I have. I know that 100 % is from forestay to sail, BUT is that measurement straight back from forestay to mast or along the line of the hull from forestay to a point on the hull that is perpendicular to the mast?
Actually, none of your proposals are correct. The sail measurement that is needed is called the "luff perpendicular". This is the distance from the clew to the luff on a line perpendicular to the luff. Usually t his is abbreviated "LP".

This measurement is compared to the "J" measurement which is the distance from the front of the mast to the headstay at deck level. The "percent" of the Genoa is LP/Jx100.
