Time Draws Near

So I have finally 90% completed all the repairs on my boat. I have some cracks in my trunk that will be fixed soon.

This being my first time ever in a sailboat, im kind of excited and scared at the same time. Not scared of disasters, just scared that i wont like it as much as i built myself up for

The plan is to go out Saturday, the weather people predict a high of 24Celcius with wind of 25kmh SW.

I have a slew of ropes and some hardware, manual pump, binoculars, small outboard, lifejackets, kayak as a life raft (planning on towing behind), Neoprene socks , waterproof gear.

Any suggestions ? Greatly appreciate it.

Other then reading and watching videos on the internet i have no other experience with sail powered vessels of any kind.

... Oh Yes and have a bunch of recording equipment ready

****EDIT

Sorry i ment to say 25kmh not knots.

Re: Time draws near

25 knots for a first sail might be a bit too many. I think you would be happier with 8 to 15 max. The lighter winds mean that mistake recoveries are easier to make. Also, consider the direction you want to go in relation to the wind. Going into 25 knots is much different than going with 25 knots. Take your time and make sure that everything possible is in your favor.

Take off on a calm day - good for your ego, and for your stomach too!

Bon voyage!

BTW If you feel the conditions are too rough, just turn round and find shelter. The world will still be out there tomorrow.

Re: Time Draws Near

Well, as an update. A little bit of a bust this weekend. Worked so hard to finish up all the work. Last thing to fix was the trunk, had a crack all around. Fixed that saturday, put a nice 1 1/2 " piece of oak on top of the trunk and connected all the gear.

Sunday loaded up and went to public boat launch in my city. The fact that i arrived there at 3pm did not help things. Too many people there, was not able to raise the mast alone unfortunately. Thought that if I put the boat in the water and maybe raise the mast from the dock. Ran into problem #2, the trailer did not go deep enough in the water to take the boat off.

All is good tho, waiting for next weekend. Will have the motor ready by then too
