This Just Floated Into Seattle

1 of world’s largest private yachts ties up on Elliott Bay

The Serene, 440-foot personal yacht of Russian vodka titan Yuri Scheffler, sits in calm waters reflecting its green neon glow while docked at Pier 90 in Seattle on Monday.

Re: This Just Floated Into Seattle

Saw this one in Nassau a few years ago. How come all these big ones are owned by Russians? In addition to the sailboat and the helicopter there is a large motor yacht on deck on the starboard side.

Oh but don't you know Russians are a bunch half wits and know nothing about anything?

This fact has long ago been established by some CF members.

Frankly, very simple answer: 1) they cost money, and 2) Russians are mostly new money and new money wants to show off.

Not mostly, they are all new money. "Russian billionaire" is a phenomenon that has not existed until mid 1990s.

This is Larry Ellison's yacht Rising Sun. Larry is the CEO of Oracle/Sun, and yes that's his boats in the AC. One New Years Eve in St Barth's I anchored close by and he had a 30' guard boat standing by. Oracle/Sun builts most if the servers for the internet.
Here's some more pics.

Paul Allens "Big Boat" is pretty impressive as well. It's starting to look like there's some Billionaires convention going on.

His "Baby Boat" ain't too shabby either.

Re: This Just Floated Into Seattle

Is it just my old-fashioned sense of aesthetics, or are some of those yachts profoundly ugly?

Re: This Just Floated Into Seattle

Roman Abramovich's "Eclipse" floated around New York Harbor most of last winter, something like 533 feet. Someone told me it's got anti-aircraft missiles on board, not sure about their source.....
