Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

Why would you have to own the boat to be a cruiser?

Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

The only negative cruiser experience I had was tying up at a transient dock and being yelled at because I was putting my lines over a boat that was using cleats for the dock I was placed at. He had lines running across the dock that the dock hands moved so I could get in. I am very flexible and willing to share but don't expect me to not tie up to a dock I paid for! SC

Cruisers are just like every other group. Some are very nice and some are not. Most are corteous and some just grumpy!

When intolerance of other countries officialdom (I don't disagree there can be frustration, but..) causes some to act like "ugly americans".

I just want to say "You're a guest in their country, for pete's sake, didn't your mother teach you to be nice in other people's homes?"

Re: Things You Don't Like About Cruisers . . .

I'm not a cruiser and I've really only known one very well and he was an absolutely great guy. But this is my observation about some "cruisers", IMO.

They are lazy pack rats. For god's sake, they have all day to hang out on the boat, don't you think they could grab a bucket, some soap, and a scrub brush and clean it up? And are they really going to use those 15 old worn out ropes hanging off from every pole and lifeline around the boat. And, if they can't afford diesel to make your boat move out of the mooring it's been anchored in for 6 months, you really don't need the 20 jerry can's tied up to the life lines. Really, to be a cruiser, you actually have to move your boat some time. Otherwise, your actually a floating derelict and your making the anchorage look like a slum.

There must be 100 of them in Simpson Lagoon right now. Several have sunk and the wreck is just sitting on the bottom with the mast sticking out of the water.

I don't really care what people can afford, it's how they maintain what they have that makes the difference.
