2015 Paris Climate Pledges have an ambitious goal which would require zero level emissions sometime between 2030 and 2050.

With nearly every nation on earth having now pledged to gradually reduce emissions of the heat-trapping gases that are warming our planet.

The Paris Agreement marks “the beginning of the end of the fossil-fuel era,”

So where do cruisers go from here? No, diesel or gas motors or generators.

Solar ?
Electric ?
Fuel Cell ?
Wind Turbine ?

Wow, this one is likely to get ugly fast, so here are my 2 cents.

Don't hold your breath, nothing will change. This agreement is nothing but a smoke show. (pun intended). The agreement excludes the three biggest polluting industries; air traffic, transportation, and agriculture.

Go ahead and change your shower heads, and toilets; turn off your lights, and buy a Prius. Even if everyone on the planet did this, nothing would change. Until those three industries are required to change, nothing we do will have much of an impact. The language used is purposely vague, and "soft", so that every country can find a way to wiggle out of doing anything meaningful.

Oh, and the best part is that the timeline for reaching their rather pathetic goals is between the years 2050 and 2100. Does anyone really believe that a politician will implement unfriendly policy today, that will cost him/ her votes, so that a goal can be reached long after they are dead.

Dream on, it will never happen. Diesels are here to stay, enjoy your boat.

Before I get set upon, I just want you all to know that I'm not some sort of hardcore environmentalist, quite the opposite actually.

Let the fireworks begin....

Very true, especially agriculture. And true again, nothing will change as in the end, money is the one and only motivator.

I do think it's kind of cute tho, humans thinking that signing some sort of agreement is going to impress mother nature.

She's rebooted this rock a few times before, and she'll do it again. All we're doing is fast forward the timeline a little.

So keep cruising, keep eating meat, keep flying. It doesn't really matter much in the end

I am always amazed how many folks are ready to pipe up against efforts at reducing CO2 emissions here. If anyone should be aware of climate change it should be sailors, we see it everywhere. And to deny our own CO2 emissions are at fault is to plainly ignore data and statistics for the last 100 years. It does matter. It matters to my kids. Yes, it may be too little, too late, but for those of us who would like to talk to our children about their future plans, we'd really appreciate it if the naysayers and deniers would give it a rest. If we are right, and we act in time, you get a planet to live on too, if we are wrong... well we're not wrong, but if we were, the terrible thing that happens is that all nations get a cleaner, more energy independent and self-sustained economy.

Ah but, isn't agriculture something to do with food production! So maybe an exclusion from the agreement is desirable! How else are we going to feed the ever increasing population? Mechanisation (using those nasty fossil fuels) has been responsible for much increased yields

In response to the OP's question, it will make no difference to sailors what so ever. We are already low on the blame barometer.

Perhaps in 20 years we will see electric engines that we can install to replace our diesels that are on par with our current needs. Yes, I know of the other thread. The cost for me is simply not justified.
