Re: There is no Planet B

I propose that we eliminate all possibility of taxation, control, and graft. And require that all proponents act as if they were part of the problem too, without any way to buy indulgences for their own excessive lifestyles. This could cure global warming overnight, and it will certainly make a better planet for our children to inherit!

It's really that simple....

Is that what the church of the global warming crowd want? Human life to die?
Yes CO2 is necessary for plant and without it the earth would be a ball of ice.

Increased CO2 in open environments leads to

1) Increased predation by pests

2) Compromised nutritional value in food crops (at 550 ppm)

Well, my dad always said we could cure all air pollution by asking everyone to hold their breath for 10 minutes.

Yes, it may be too little, too late, but for those of us who would like to talk to our children about their future plans, we'd really appreciate it if the naysayers and deniers would give it a rest. If we are right, and we act in time, you get a planet to live on too, if we are wrong... well we're not wrong, but if we were, the terrible thing that happens is that all nations get a cleaner, more energy independent and self-sustained economy.
Nice to hear from someone who can see beyond the end of their nose. There was a good meme on Facebook which went something like this. ''What if we cleaned-up the environment and global warming turned out to be a mistake''. These folks, some who eat the fish where they sail, apparently do not understand the effects of heavy-metals and the outright pollution of our oceans. Or, maybe they understand that none of this is going to effect them much at all and figure their grandchildren and great grandchildren can just sort it out for themselves. Personally, I care.

Re: There is no Planet B

I am disappointed
Not a single comment I found, which had no trace of irony, self-assumption, belief...
There us no truth yet, little agreement, too many interests, and habits...

To me, this is it
- climate Science!? What is it!? We are still struggling about physics.... climate is an empirical playground of forecast games, at best, and at its infancy

- number of people is a factor.. we doubled in few decades... what next!?

- on a personal basis, living with a high-energy style should be praised and sought after

That said, people should show LESS FAITH in what they say in this respect...

As resources are limited and have economic value, things will move into the right direction, with a little incentive and MORE CULTURE on the topic.

Being aware is +paramount now

Living small is an excellent start. Just scaling back is the most obvious answer. That's my approach, not following the latest green fad.

"Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without."

No better way to leave a small footprint. And If only I had learned that younger I would have retired years ago. It doesn't need to be completely spartan, just less than it was.

Re: There is no Planet B

I'm tired of the climate change debates. I'm not going to wade through the pages of arguments. Been there, done that. I'll just register my opinion and be gone.

Climate change is real and has the capacity to take humanity down. However, the really big problem is over population, it needs to be more like 1 billion, not 7. Humanity has no capacity to self regulate and will be the cause of its own downfall.

Carry on.

Re: There is no Planet B

I fail to see a problem here. I mean we do have clean diesel technology. All our clean diesels are passing there emissions inspections with flying colors.
Whats not to like.

Just put on a respirator like everyone does in China and problem solved.

We are raising a bunch of babies here.

Moderators,

I think it's time the Global Warming and Climate change enthusiasts formed there own sub group within the CF forum and took their preaching and enthusiasm private. Just the same way we took the gun debate private one year ago with the gun owners group.

The time has come.... before the apocalyptic ending of the Earth itself caused by overheated computer lithium batteries brought about by bored sailors arguing.

Ah come on its just trying to relieve the doldrums of cabin fever for us in the north half of the marble. ( BTW the one half that will get really cold when the pendulum swings the other way.) In a few hundred years or so.

Stunning amount of ignorance and misinformation here about the cause and effects of global warming. To the point that some even deny that thermometers even really work.

Re: There is no Planet B

As a tried and true capitalist, I want immediate action on renewable energy for three reasons: it creates more jobs, it can make each country energy independent, and the cost of moving major cities like New York, Miami, Boston, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Seattle to name a few, is mind boggling. The estimates run into 100's of trillions (yes trillions), and remember these costs get passed along to all of us. Lots cheaper to stop the ocean rise.
