Re: The Way to Treat Pirates
Personaly, I feel All cruiseing boats should be issued rocket launchers just to help with the Pirate problem !! Of course lots of folks not from the US will say we are just gun nuts!! But years ago some of us carried a cannon that shot beer can sized cannon balls !!In fact mine shot beer cans full of concrete!! not real accurate, but big noise and lots of smoke and BIG splashes in the water !! LOL sounds like it's time to rearm !! LOL Just my 2 cents

Let's assume you're right about the pirates being victims. Not all Somali's become pirates. Not all Somali's kill. At some point everyone is responsible for their actions. I am not prepared to be sympathetic to any pirate who risks the lives of innocent victims. Hang 'em high. Shoot them on sight. To the balance of the more needy in the world that don't kill or engage in piracy I don't mind giving them free medical care, food stamps, a generous grant for school, and a small business loan.
Cheers,
Bill

Re: The Way to Treat Pirates
The longer they are left to get away with Hi jacking, abducting even killing innocent people either working for a living or sailing to "enjoy life " the more they will do it, I am all for sending them to "davie Jones's locker" A good flare gun into their long range fuel tanks would also do the job if they come along side us. "among other things that are available when you talk to the correct people" :-)
They have troubles in their own country, then they should sort the government out "like other Arab states have" As for sending them to USA & UK ? Why create more issues there for the innocent ? That is a big issue already In UK as they have let the doors open for other EU. countries to invade, I am up for taking a job on the Tankers like that, its like a 007 job :-0

Shift 100%+ of CF posters if you look at this and other similar threads.
It's definitely over time for Zero tolerance of these cockroaches.
It's time we said, "Enough of this crap!"
Thank you all.

Offshore equipment list:
1. EPIRB
2. Life raft
3. RPG
Do not overuse 1 or 2.

Re: The Way to Treat Pirates
In my mind the biggest problem is that half the Sudan and most of Somalia play by an entirely different set of rules than we in the US do. Life is cheap over there, killing is a way of life and the tough ones survive. Spent some time over there in the oil business and those folks use the wests' reverence for life and property to make a pretty good living on ransoms. The guys you see in the small pangas running after tankers, container ships and pleasure craft are all run by an extensive group of thugs that control the gulf over there. Good money to be made ransoming their prizes but the little guys get just enough to keep them in hash, gas and food.
Nothing is going to change until there is a bigger thug or government prepared to play by their rules and take out the whole structure top to bottom.
Ain't going to happen because of potential political fallout and the price of ransom is cheaper than putting boots on the ground to complete the job.
Just my opinion (somewhat informed, however) Capt Phil

As you will see in the clip, a fare gun will do nothing to a fuel tank, let alone a human skull.
