Ah yes, but a pilot house is a pilot house, and I like like the clean ngin and no flappy sheets and other things that go wrong. Me think everything uses 'gins these days and all sailors lie

I had a couple of large offshore fast fishing boats whilst in Florida. I also had fuels bills that made me feel like I was buying a city in Saudi. Im not a rich man, and I became a lot less not rich rich owning these babies........it was just acceptable at $2 a gallon.. (with the emphasis on 'just') a weekend offshore could easily burn 500-1000 gallons and I would only go when had people to share the costs with.... or else I would stay and poodle (one engine on tickover.... or two if approaching a fancy restaurant

) around the local bay..

Dont get me wrong .. I LOVED the motor boating.......... and there is nothing like a comfortable cruise down the coast.....only it was me playing in a league I couldnt afford.

Yes well, I tried to calculate the costs of gas in a Nordhavn or a Diesel Duck going from SF to NZ. When I weighed the expenses, these one shot pushed didn't seem so bad compared maintenance cost wise with a sailor. The video interviews online of owners who crossed over from sailboats confirmed this.

I can imagine though the shorter sails adding up once you are where you want to be and puttering around.

Can't help myself drooling at the cabins, the ngin room, and the dog house.

I still want one. Just no monkey money. I'll be lucky if I can git me a Dana.

oh yes. the reason i got out of the toys I could not afford was the 2 month fuel bill of $11000 when I used it offshore. I scaled down to a 27 footer and did more trips inshore and my fuel bill was 80% less. Neither boat was diesel.

Im not convinced that the cost of a motor vessel over a sailer for SF to NZ is as cost affective as you think. Blow one engine and its all over. Have someone work on an engine and its 20K......... you can replace the engine and get new sails on a sailer for that

Yes but the gins are much more reliable me thinks, and better taken care of.

Me thinks I have no choice in the matter unless that lotto ticket comes in, or Arsenal wins the cup

it comes to something when we, as adults, or is that really 'older' persons correct the spelling of slang terms in an attempt to prove our maturity and knowledge.

It is no wonder I seek the stability of a catamaran for the sole purpose of not spilling my beer and having to walk to get another one from the fridge, which is powered by shore electric to which I will be tethered to for months at a time.

But I will live on a boat and I have sailed over 200 miles offshore... and I can spell bollocks.

I think I have reached the pinnacle of life and its downhill from here on in.

sigh.
