The authorities were aware of the securite and in most places that means they simply log it and possibly pass it on to other boats in the area. Since none of us (including Boatie) had any inkling that they would go out looking for him, why clue them in exactly where he was other than so they could update the securite message with a more exact location since he didn't have any lights on at night and was a hazard to navigation? I suspect that rather than the securite, it was that combined with the ship that gave him water reporting that he had asked for and they had rendered aid which raised the level of response above what any of us expected.

Did the owner express any second thoughts, Atoll, about how things went down? Any recriminations against you? FWIW Atoll, you'd be on my Spot call list!! Boaty's feeling aside, did JP take advantage of the situation by seeking repair work?

These threads are why I read CF. Kudos to the moderators and if it takes the ads to keep it going, so be it. They are easy to tune out.

Re: The trip... Securite.. as opposed to Pan Pan or Mayday.. blah blah blah

Good luck on the rest of your journey can't wait to hear from you in Spain!!!

As an aside when using the spot. If I'm not mistaken (and I could be) there is a "I'm Ok" button that you can press. I am not sure if that would post on the website or just to your contacts, but if you know people are watching whether it be us or just the owners on a future delivery. If things get a little sideways would you consider sending that message off so that people won't mistake slow progress, an abrupt change of course, or a securite as a problem?

I know you have more important things on your mind on a delivery but maybe hit the button once a day before bed on your way into the cabin.

Just a friendly thought / question for my own curiosity. Again I hope you have a great un-eventful rest of your trip. HAPPY SAILING

Could you not simply pick one and go from there?

Seems to me that it simply indicates that there IS a LOT of information available.
