Thanks SB.. but it'd be cheaper for me to sail across in my tin can.. what I save in the airfares would cover my expenses for 5mths.

That is a GREAT idea...I'm IN!!!!
I would buy you dinner, drinks, fill your fuel tank, change your oil, and maybe even bring you an anchor, or other old gear I've got kicking around (handheld VHF, GPS, etc). I really think you are on to something!!!!

Oh crap...thats how I crossed the atlantic!

Re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

Maybe we need to wait till Spring. I noticed a distinct lack of boats for sale (U.K.)in the modest price range on ebay, apolloduck and boatshed. Even worse, no additional catamarans for sale other than those that have been advertised for at least a year.

Re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

Been following a few threads here and I went the frugal route also lol. Bought a old boat, warrior 35 paid $3,000 and in process of sanding bottom for recoat and copper. All it needs is a mainsail and some new cordage and I can launch it

Good on ya, mate, and happy Christmas to you, too. Good on ya, hope the weather cooperates for the launching.

Well it's on the hard in louisville ky right now, have to wait for weather in spring to finish bottom then bring it up the ohio river to Eastern Kentucky where my marina is and work on interior then should be headed toward Mississippi River and Gulf Coast winter of next year

Re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

Would we all just be able to write a cheque for $250K the issue of boat purchase no longer exists.....

On the other hand, I find a lot of joy in rebuilding an older vessel to a high standard and fitting it out to my requirements and in knowing it doesnt stand me at a lot of money. I have only ever had one new car in my life and I spent the whole time driving it being concerned about scratches and the 'newness' given the cost of the darned thing... I was also not happy that the second I drove it from the dealership, its value dropped by a large percentage...

Its all relative when it comes to everything except money.... with money you either have it or you dont....

Your boat will be great when finished..
