Sigh..!!! another coulda, shoulda, woulda..
I hear you with the race bars. I had this at a friends place for when I came home. It got to a point that within 30mins of riding my left leg was a sleep and I wasnt sure I could pull the clutch in when coming to a stop etc due to hand(s) not wanting to work from having so much weight on them. Just stopped enjoying it, and you know what? After 14 bikes I just don't have the nerve anymore, must be a age mortality thing setting in...lol.

The great thing about Portugal is.. apart from Lisbon and Porto its like biking in the 70's in the UK..
The populations less than Greater London and its reflected in the traffic.

Jim Cate, sorry about my late reply to your comment...I agree with you about expensive watches being jewelry. I also see them as statements of personal status.

I have a friend who buys 10k-20k watch a year. Then resells them 5 years down the road and has always made a very nice profit on them. An investment as it were.

Re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

In reading a few of the threads currently on the board, I see that cruising means different things to different people.

The intention of this thread as previously mentioned several times, is to encourage those without huge incomes or a pocketful of cash to enter into the world of boating in a manner that can be sustained and extract huge amounts of enjoyment from being on the water. As is the nature of CF, the word 'frugal' was dissected and a whole heap of discourse from folks who have enough folding to drop a couple of hundred thousand on a vessel and another 100K fitting it out took exception that they were excluded from the literalness of being frugal.

Well the intention of the thread is now reflected in a changed title. Im sure some will find reason to contest it but the spirit lives on

Now if someone in Europe (UK) has £13K ($16K or less) then this is a GOOD BUY....

Great to see this thread return to its original purpose.

Hey, it even comes with a pair of bright red underpants! Just what I always wanted... (See photo no. 8)

But (kind of) seriously, that Catalac does indeed look like quite a good deal, but whether it really is will depend on various factors that may not be obvious from the ad. Nowhere does the "buyer beware" principle apply more than on sites such as Ebay. That said, I do use Ebay et al, and I have sometimes bought boating stuff sight unseen on Yahoo Auctions (the Japanese equivalent of Ebay) and got great deals. But one must be willing to swallow a loss in the worst case.

Incidentally, do you happen to know what the approximate headroom in the saloon of this Catalac would be?

It is not frugality to have boats and motorcycles...but they sure are fun. I have a Buell M2 and Idora...no conflict whatsoever. Sorry to hear Boatman has been injured. Hope the bike wasn't bent as well.

Re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

Catalacs sail like pigs. I delivered one once and we laughed the whole time at how it sucked. Sorry if I offend but a Winnebago that floats is still a piece of crap.
