You might be a frugal person if:

You have a soldering iron. Bonus points if you own a de-soldering iron.
You own a Volt-ohm meter (Lots of sailors have that) Yep frugal.
Have three or more kinds of fiberglass cleaner/ polishing compounds aboard.
Know how to make an eyesplice in single and or double braid.
Clean the boats bottom yourself.
SC, do you mean that there are cruisers who DON'T have all those things?

Good grief! What is this world coming to?

A truly Frugal Sailor will just switch to Island Time and never have to worry about a watch!

Havent had a watch or a cell phone for years. Sort of a principle thing. Need to know when to reach out and slap someone? That's what SN is for..

Okay, a giant thread about frugality started by a highly educated elite medical professional hanging out in Mallorca. An investigation will rapidly locate Weavis living in luxury aboard a giant Gunboat cat wearing a paisley cravat.:-)

Unfortunately, due to frugality, that's the only thing Weavis is wearing!

Odd for a watch with an automatic movement don't you think?
Do you think that part of the description could be wrong? They do have a solar powered watch that is close to the same.
<edit>
After some investigating it seams the watch has a power reserve, so I guess it has a battery in it.

I can understand that, and it sounds good. I haven't taken any diving lessons yet, but I am of the understanding that a dive watch is a piece of equipment that is needed?

Some sort of timing device is needed for diving, but a dive computer has a clock on it, and some consoles have a small clock built in, next to the pressure gauge and depth meter.

Obviously weavis as the elitist is the only one on this thread that can read his own words... firstly he is not in Mallorca, secondly he sold the Gunboat to satisfy the financial longings of 17 ex wives and thirdly he hates Paisley with a passion.

He can currently be located in Sevilla in a third floor apartment without an elevator sharing his abode with a crazy Russian violinist who is getting on his nerves, an Italian language teacher from Milan who when offered to go sailing with with Weavis got seasick thinking about it and a 22 year old female student studying web design who appears to not know how to wash dishes.

He can often be found in sushi bars and in ditches after visiting afore mentioned sushi bars on a route vaguely in the direction toward his apartment of which he still cannot remember the street name of.

Weavis has use of a less than stellar sailing vessel on the River which in order to go under bridges has the mast stored ashore. I dont believe weavis have ever been under a bridge so far but the reason satisfies the owner whom it is secretly believe wanted a motorboat and got confused in the store, or took note of the example of consequences that happened to weavis of what happens when the wife gets ticked off.

As this is a new business venture, not only does weavis qualify as a member of FSOM, he has redefined the terms of frugality beyond human comprehension.

The other when heading off to a sushi bar, he turned to the crazy violinist and told him to put on his coat and gloves, the violinist said it was nice of weavis to take him.... weavis informed him that he was not taking him but was switching off the central heating whilst was gone.

Tough day friend?
I hope your day improves. No suggestion but write a book about it. Sounds like a very good book!
But ya know, I've just spent 18 hours driving and I've missed a lot of this thread lately. It could be you are joking and it could be yoi are serious. I don't know. But I would still read the book.

I do hate Paisley.
I do sub rent to an Italian, a Russian and female student.
I do like sushi.
I do use a boat with no mast.
There are not 17 ex wives.
The rest is humour...

And the Russian violinist is seriously getting on my nerves...

Did you hear the one about the nurse?

Who rents out 17 rooms in his house to social workers and spends most days taking care of 20 crazy Russian violinists at the nuthouse?

Your's doesn't appear to be wearing a nappy.

re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

Today
The violinist threw a fit over "someone" putting something in 'his' drawer in the kitchen.
I gently tried to tell him that it was not his drawer and was communal.

After listening to the tirade for 10 minutes, I smiled and went and got a cardboard box and started putting all his stuff in it from the kitchen...

"What are you doing?! " he asked...

I told him that if had difficulty with sharing then to keep his stuff in his room, and whilst he was at it, move his bike from the main room into the bedroom and also please stop practicing the violin as it was too loud.

I left the kitchen and when I came back, there was a sincere apology and a promise to work better with us.... I did think that he was going to cry and hug me and that did not appeal..

I now have a happy violinist who is being nice to everyone...

People eh?

I think this is why I only share my boat space with people I know and respect.... I have the feeling that after the 3rd man overboard incident the authorities might get suspicious...
