re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

I've always managed to stay a step ahead of real financial success on my own but have always had enough. My boat is all I can handle physically so no need to go big.

I admire Ken et ux for working hard for what they want. Seems like they've made some good decisions. Hell, I'd trade all the cars I've had for an old Ferrari now.

A frugal Ferrari.

'I've been rich, I've been poor,........... rich wins.'

Going by Barnakeil's definition I think I am frugal.

I weigh up the bang for the buck of what I buy and ignore the bling.

$60 20yo wristwatch but 400UKP Fujinon binoculars ( there is no added value in the Zeiss ) , and I wouldn't let a plastic sextant cross the rail.

Ditto with wine and food.

re: The Frugal (AKA poor) Sailor

I have a vague sense of unease at the lack of boats for sale in the UK... lots of 20 footers, a few 26 footers and then......nada.

Of course Im talking about the reasonably prices vessels. A quick look on boatshed.com shows only 18 Catamarans for sale, and they are not cheap ones either... some have been there for a year or more.

either people are using their boats more or just have them tucked away and forgotten about..

Arghhhhh. Envy here!

There are two maybe three things that I do miss heaps when living in the tropics. What I miss most is ... snow!

Yeah. And this winter it all may take a turn and we may be given a chance to ski again too. If not, I will settle for another half a year in the West Indies. No snow there, but good life anyways.

Have fun up there in the North!

Cheers,
b.

If I never see another frost in my life, I'll be more than happy

I saw that prior. Most are not for the frugal sailor, and some that are reasonably priced are not worth it. I wont mention which ones. Some have been for sale for over 2 years and have literally dropped a 1/3 to half the price.. I have visited 2 on the list personally

The truly frugal would not own a yacht.

There's nothing frugal about buying a cheaply priced piece of junk that's going to cost you more in the long run. Sometimes it pays dividends to spend a little more and buy something of quality with a solid foundation.

Must get to England one of these days and buy up all your inexpensive catamarans! Of course, that would not be frugal, so maybe only just one
