a silent x fan for refrigerator. Used to be able to hear the system run all the time and now it is nice and quiet.

on the subject of flashlights, you should really look into some of the flashlights powered by 18650 batteries, easily recharged and will power flashlights with HUGE lumen output. I use a couple and would never go back to AAA or AA batteries.

Ethanol free gas for the outboard(at 4.52 a gallon, 2 gallons more than enough for whole season.)

Re: The Best thing you added to the boat under $25

Let'sl see...

Could be the O2 breeze fan $15-$20 in most department stores. Just clip the 120v wall wart off and solder on a 12v plug. Good fan. Same power as a 747 camframo, but more air and quiet. (Not wall mountable though.)

Could also be a 2 gallon garden sprayer for $12 that makes a dandy solar shower.

Or a $20 canvas drop cloth that makes a dandy summer sun shade for the boat.

Or a $14 wireless remote control for the autopilot, Requires an engineer.... luckily I is one.

Or a $6 feed bucket from the farm store (GO Bucketneers!) which has a heavy duty handle.

Fresh water butt sprayer fitted next to the head. Less toilet paper used and flushed. Easier on the toilet system. Better for the environment. Fresh water purge down the pipes. Best of all ... A clean Ass!

The Best thing you added to the boat under $25

Not clue, any boat I paid $25 for would be a serious project boat and I am allergic to those things so I wouldn't buy it in the first place.

A house is but a boat so poorly built and so firmly run aground you would never try to refloat it.😁

Wind resistant lighter. Like a mini torch. Perfect for burning frayed lines out in the wind.

Re: The Best thing you added to the boat under $25

Can I start with some assumptions? If I can assume that there's a spare block on board, and some spare sheets (old ones OK), I would that rigging boom preventers qualifies -- assuming you can find another beefy block for $25. I've got preventers rigged on my boat all the time (lines from cockpit to boom via blocks amidship). I can gybe without the slightest concern about the boom. I just do it, get the headsail(s) more or less trimmed, then let out the preventer to bring the boom gently across. So easy; so much safer. It helps if you have extra winches in the cockpit (we do), but it would work with cleats alone.

Judging by the response from the crew, the best cheap item I ever brought aboard was a couple of bags of ice.
To really appreciate that you have to have been cruising in the days before everybody had refrigerators lol.
