Teacher needing information

Hello,
I am a 6th grade teacher and I am in need of a little information. My class is getting ready to read "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle", a novel about a young gal who takes a transatlantic passage in 1832. We were wondering how long would a trip from Liverpool, England to Providence, Rhode Island take today. I have no ideas about boats and sailing so we are just looking for a ballpark, average time. Thanks so much for taking your time to answer this for us!

Hi Cmacklin - it is about 3000 nautical miles - lets say 100 nautical mile days in an old sailing boat - it would take 30 days give or take - modern race yachts can halve that
Regards
Ian ( another teacher)

Greetings and welcome aboard cmacklin.
Thirty days would have been a quick tansatlantic in the 1800's.
See this reference site:
Statistics concerning the transatlantic crossing
