Taking a Shotgun to Bahamas from US and Back

Personally, a shotgun is the last weapon I'd choose. I'd rather have something that might be a little more effective from a distance for protection. Having both wouldn't hurt for all possible situations.

You never know what you're going to get. Why not take a rifle, sawed-off shot gun and a taser. That way you have all 3 courses....the appetizer (taser) the main course (shot gun) and the dessert(rifle to finish off the getaways.)

Can anyone provide additional info about the legality of taser/stun guns and pepper spray? I'd given up on guns because of those "certain regulations", but was thinking these would still be allowed.

I would steer clear of the Taser since it looks like a gun and fires a projectile. I was thinking more like the hand-held kind, or batons.

My own quick research is that stun guns are restricted in the following countries, but don't know how complete or accurate that is.

The reason most countries ban tasers and pepper sprays is that the notion of " personal protection". Most countries do not allow licencing firearms or any weapon for " personal protection". You can only license firearms for sporting reasons. since tasers and pepper sprays have no sporting function they get banned. In most countries personal protection is the function and responsibility of the police forces.

I carry a gun, because a police officer is too heavy! Seriously, the police (at least in the US) have no responsibility for your personal protection.. They will come by afterwards and take a report however.

I have traveled to the Bahamas from FL many times, always with a Mossburg 500. Always declared, never hassled. Follow the rules of the Bahamas and they will not bother you.

Leave the weapons at home. We spent 7 months there in many different part and with the exception of Nassau never felt unsafe. In fact we lock the boat more in the states.

It amazes me how a simple question about rules, laws or regulations turns so far south. OP did not ask about crime rates or gun safety. Simply about information he needed regarding enforcement.

Sounds like from the few that did answer the question that it is both legal and not a hassle. Assuming you know the risks of gun ownership and use, I hope you enjoy your right to the personal choice of gun ownership and possession.

But then again, I am from Texas where we all still carry six shooters in our holsters while we ride the horses out to check on the oil wells.

Firearms come with risk and responsabilities, heavy on the responsabilities, and much like sailing, motorcycles and opera, they are not for everyone. I do cary a hand gun on board when in US waters (as apposed to Canada). I am more likely to use it for a signaling device than protection, but I have licence to carry and feel that if I'm going to own a firearm I had better stay familiar with it, and with having it around. Kind of a thread drift.....
