Thanks for that. I was Florida based and worked within the confines of their requirements.

However, it doesnt permit ANY State to carry in the Bahamas. Period.

American law at present allows weapons to be carried concealed or otherwise in the USA, and international law extends the courtesy to vessels out of the USA excepting where countries state otherwise.

The option to carry a weapon in the Bahamas is limited to the VESSEL.

Weavis, Im not sure, I know what you mean here, There is no automatic reciprocity on international firearms laws. You are correct in that most countries have rules that associate the firearm to the vessel, because otherwise, its a personal import and often very different rules apply.

I don't remember ever seeing a law that allowed a firearm on the vessel to be taken ashore, that would count as importation and a whole lot of other laws apply,

IN many countries merely sailing into a countries territorial wages with an unapproved firearm, can result in seizure if you are stopped, as happened to an american in German waters a few years ago

If a drug crazed person with a knife climbs on a boat.

A pro gun person sees it as a threat to his family or his safety.

An anti gun person sees it as a nice person has come aboard to help cut a pineapple.

lol..... Unfortunately in Europe, the people got sucked into the "guns are Bad!" lie and haveto depend on the police for protection.... good luck with that. Now in the UK, criminals have the guns and people on the street get stabbed instead.

A man has to do what he has to do on his vessel. Its his home. Just be prepared for some heavy treacle though if a fatality occurs.

Im very much pro-gun, but Im not pro boating with guns. You view in Europe is very much what the pro-gun lobby presents as the picture. The fact is the public at large in many European countries and especially in the Uk, would ban all legally held guns if they had a chance. The public being much more anti then the governments. Thats whats caused the handgun ban etc.

Personally I depair the "force projection" argument that arises from gun carriers. The last thing I want is to see anchorages filled with gun-toting sailors. Thank god , the US is not really a long distance sailing society.

Pesonally , if I could avoid all the nuisance with check-ins and hassle etc, I probably carry a mossberg mariner.

But I think the consequences in using one are very hairy in m,any jurisdictions and thats the rub

Throw the sat phone at him instead

Sadly, a lot if not most of the miscreants who rob boats are not sailors....and sailors dun gotta stick together.

I am pro gun but would like to see all guns removed from the streets. It will never happen and because of that, when in America, I keep mine thank you...

A bullet now costs more than a satphone..... good idea.....
dave

It looks like that yes. BUt it is a carefully cultivated attitude fed to them by the goverment after a major incident... Like Dunblane in Scotland where children were shot.... oh wait! same thing is happening in the States!

so yes.... you can take a weapon to the bahamas and keep it on board in strict compliance with the Bahamian laws.

so no... you cannot carry it on shore and pistol whip people or shoot them because the person is ugly or 'might' be thinking about diddling your wife.

Some of my best times have been with drug crazed nutters .

Not sure what the reluctance is with folks not being willing to simply chop up an intruder with a machete . Gonna be disposing of a body anyway - that best done in bits.
